Experience
I have been working with horses from a very young age, beginning my journey at just four years old, learning and training alongside my mother, who is also a professional horse trainer. From an early age, I developed a strong foundation through hands-on learning as her apprentice, gaining valuable knowledge in horsemanship, training techniques, and horse welfare.
Over the years, I have gained extensive experience backing young horses, addressing behavioural issues, and producing horses for jumping and cross-country. My work has involved developing horses carefully and progressively, always prioritising correct training, confidence, and long-term soundness.
All training is carried out with a horse-welfare–first approach, using calm, ethical, and effective methods, and tailored to each horse’s individual needs and development.
Skills
Trainer
Welcome to Harber’s Equine Training.
My name is Shirleyann, and I work at Harber’s Equine Training as an experienced Horse Trainer with over 14 years of hands-on experience, working from backing young horses through to rehabilitating horses with behavioural challenges.
Training is always conducted with a horse-welfare–first approach, tailored to each horse’s needs and development, using calm, ethical, and effective methods.
I am available to train medically sound horses only. Horses presenting with issues such as reluctance to be ridden, bucking when mounted, bit shyness, head shyness, or leg shyness must have veterinary approval confirming they are physically healthy prior to training. Services Offered
At present, I offer mobile training services, meaning I come to you to work with your horse in its home environment.
From summer 2026, Harber’s Equine Training stables will be available for full livery training. This programme consists of five days of training per week, fully tailored to your horse’s individual needs and development.
Full livery training includes:
24-hour supervision
Daily feeding
Fresh water available at all times, with water troughs checked and refilled regularly
Grooming
Mucking out
Exercise
Turnout and bringing in
Grazing
Rugging and unrugging
Training and daily care, carried out entirely by myself
Feeding & Bedding
Each horse is provided with one bale of meadow hay per day, which is more than sufficient for most horses. Additional hay can be supplied if required, at additional cost.
One bale of straw bedding or one bale of shavings per day is included. If bedding usage exceeds this amount, additional charges will apply.
Supplements can be provided at the owner’s request and choice.
All training, grazing, feed, daily care, and supervision are fully included and personally managed by me, ensuring consistency, safety, and a high standard of horse welfare at all times.
